The first monitoring point within the wireless network has gone online again on 1 April 2011 after it was successfully equipped beginning of February with an dissolved oxygen sensor (the Christchurch earthquake resulted in a further disruption of more than a month).
The innovative sensor (D-Opto) measures the oxygen concentration in the water in an optical way, causing much less maintenance problem compared to the typical mebrane-based oxygen sensors.
The monitoring point, situated on campus behind the Engineering building, now measures water temperature, water level, pH, turbidity, conductivity and oxygen concentration.
